Mark: Hi, I’m Mark.
Barbara: And I’m Barbara.
Mark: And we’re Wicky Design.
Barbara: And here’s another Ask A Web Designer video.
Today’s question is, “How long does it take to build a website?”
I would say for smaller sites for small businesses it usually takes about 2 weeks from start to finish. And that is after you provide us with all of your content and all of your images. It takes us about 2 weeks to design and develop a site for you.
We require our clients to have all of their information ready because it’s really hard to design a website when you don’t have content or images to go off of. If you have that stuff in place beforehand, you have the branding figured out, you have the content, you have your brand photos for your website, you are going to have a much better product in the end. So that’s why we require all of that information up front before we start the design process.
Mark: And I’m going to add to that that people definitely ask, “Why do you need this upfront? Can you just give me mockups or anything like that?” And no, we design around your content and your images which does set us apart from a lot of people because if you go to other design agencies they might waste more time doing mockups or stuff like that and that isn’t really needed these days.
Barbara: Right, and doing a mockup without content really isn’t that effective because once you get the content it’s not going to look exactly the same as what that mockup is going to be. Things are going to be changed around just because the length of the content is likely going to be different than any dummy text or anything that you put into a mockup. So we always like to get that finalized piece of content ready to go before we design the website. And that going to make things more effective for you because we can break up that content on the page to make sure that people are getting the most bang for their buck. A lot of people aren’t going to go to your site and read every single word, but they’ll scan it, so we try to break up the content on the website so that it’s easily scannable, it looks really good, and it gets the message that you want to get across, across.
So, that’s what we do, and it takes about 2 weeks to do that whole process. And for bigger sites obviously it’s going to take a little bit longer. If you have more pages that’s more work that we have to do. But for our clients, generally they have smaller sites, about 6 pages is generally what a standard website for us and our client entails. So that takes about 2 weeks.
So in 2 weeks, you can have a brand new website if you go with us. It’s not going to be a months or years long process. We want to get you up and running quickly because the longer you wait, that’s money left on the table.
So that was today’s question. Come back tomorrow for another Ask A Web Designer video. Make sure you subscribe and click the bell to receive notifications. Bye!
