Web Design Do’s and Dont’s

March 23, 2017

Your website represents your business and when done right, can be a very helpful tool for marketing. If your business needs a new website, or you’re planning to revamp your old one, keep these do’s and dont’s of web design in mind to be sure that you get a site that works for you.

Web design do's and dont's

DO communicate with your web designer.

You know your business best, so it’s important to communicate that to your designer. Web design should be a collaborative process, where both you and your designer share ideas. Tell your designer the goals you have not only for your website, but for your business. Together, you’ll come up with a plan to achieve those goals.

DON’T follow every trend.

Trends come and go in web design and it’s easy to see a beautiful site and want something exactly like it. Just because someone else is doing it, doesn’t mean that it’s right for your business. Your website needs to represent you and your goals, not someone else’s.

DO keep things simple.

No one wants to read through long paragraphs of content to try and find what they are looking for. Your pages should be scannable and have important information highlighted. Every page on your site should have a purpose, so don’t clutter up your site with unnecessary information.

DON’T forget about mobile.

A lot of people will be accessing your site through their phone, so the mobile layout of your site is just as important as the desktop layout. As mentioned above, simpler is better, especially for mobile design. You may want to consider simplifying your mobile layout to make it easier to get around and don’t forget to make phone numbers clickable, so people can easily get in touch.

DO trust your designer.

Your designer is an expert, so trust their advice! They have the experience to know what works best and what doesn’t. Trust your designer to create you a website that not only looks nice, but achieves your end goal.

DON’T be afraid to ask questions

Questions help with the design process, so don’t be afraid to ask away! The more questions you ask, the more he/she will know what you are looking to get out of your website. Remember, we are here to help!
